Perimeter is searching for Senior Full-Stack Software Engineers to create and support an intuitive, real-time communication tool for first responders and communities affected by natural disasters such as wildfires and hurricanes. By helping us iterate and improve our product, you will help to create a unique user experience in high-stress, high-risk environments.

Perimeter’s mission is to provide trusted information to bridge the gap between governmental agencies and the communities they serve. We do this by improving the quality of current evacuation warnings and other communications: rather than rely on text-based notifications sent to entire cities or counties, emergency managers can use Perimeter to send communities accurate and detailed evacuation maps with recommended routes and guidance on where to go. Unlike a traditional text message, Perimeter provides real-time information on how a disaster is progressing.

Team updates:

We closed our $4.5 million funding round in mid-May of 2023, and are well-positioned for growth in the coming years.
Perimeter already has active deployments with 106 departments across California and Nevada serving 2.2M residents, including active deployments for wildfires, floods, and day-to-day hazards like road closures across various counties in 2023.
We received 1.4 million views during our first Merced County deployment in January 2023.
Perimeter has multiple new customers in our pipeline and is in a stage of rapid growth.
We have been featured in the New York Times, Business Insider, Forbes, The Guardian, and The Wall Street Journal, and were winners of the New York Times’ “Good Tech Awards",the Beat the Blaze government hackathon, and the Verizon Climate Resilience Prize.

As A Senior Software Engineer, You Will:

Contribute to and oversee the full-stack development of our web platform.
Work closely with, and incorporate feedback from: PMs, designers, and other engineers.
Proactively enhance our backend infrastructure and DevOps.
Expand and optimize database schema.
Consistently seek and offer feedback to peers and cross-functional partners.

You have developed a web application using React.
You are familiar with typescript.
You are familiar with user-centered design best practices for web and mobile experiences.
You have experience working on complex systems and applications.
You have experience with bringing new products to market.

You are a strong communicator; explaining complex technical concepts to product managers, designers, and other engineers is no problem for you.
You write understandable code with an eye towards maintainability and scalability.
When things break – and they will – you are eager and able to help fix things.
You have the ability to maintain and troubleshoot our mission-critical system in near real time.
